torrent downloading help please!

Post by celeron » Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:24 am

My 2 year old loved the BBC "Room on a Broom" animation on at christmas. We did not record it on the digital set top box. I just want to be able to download it from somewhere onto my pc, then be able to transfer it onto a memory stick, so I can download it onto my PS3 harddrive so I can play it back whenever he wants. I am having problems doing this.

I have found some download sites, they all want credit card details, free trial for 5 or 12 days etc. I don't really want to do that. Other sites asked me to install a net privacy thingy which I didn once, then deleted after AVG didn't like it.

I am a computer idiot btw. Can anyone direct me to a free, EASY TO USE, download site, and tell me how to do all this? be as simple and as patronising as possible as I cannot work them all out.

thanks in advance

Was it an animated show of around 25ish minutes?

If so check your inbox.

Personally prefer newsgroups, but you have to pay for those. If you want it for free, torrents is your easiest bet.

This is the torrent client I sometimes use, just install free version.
http://www.utorrent.com

And this should be a verified version of the torrent file itself :
http://www.torrenthound.com/hash/0c84fb ... -x264-C4TV
Just click the link halfway through page that says Download .torrent.

You dont have to pay for newsgroups, many providers offer a package in your monthly fee BUT most of the time it has restrictions. :P

But either use what Morra linked or what I've sended you with a PM. The choice is yours.

Yeah my ISP has that as well, but its utter shit :) That's why I have a paid newsgroup account, which has about 4.5 years retention, but even that are starting to become less useful for new things, since they are forced to take down certain tv shows.

Of course if you are not using a vpn (to hide your IP and traffic) then the ISP will know where you are downloading from and what you are downloading. So it's just a matter of time before you get a letter from a lawyer at some point in the future threatening you with criminal charges and hefty fines unless you pay to make it go away. The DMCA are all over this at the moment. They're even taken down media from newsgroups. Further more since the ISP knows you are illegally downloading they'll deliberately throttle your bandwidth.

The removal of content from newsgroups is a pain, I switched from provider couple of times now, but I think all big ones are forced to remove certain content now, but that problem has been fixed already as well.

I use http://www.goldenfrog.com/vyprvpn . It's easy and has a nice little app so you can choose what server you want to connect to. For example if you wanted to watch US TV networks websites that are US IPs only you can connect to the Washington or LA servers in seconds and watch whatever you want. If it's just for privacy then you'd join the London server. The basic level has standard PPTP and ultra secure L2TP encryption. If you were downloading something naughty then you would opt for L2TP encryption. That can't be cracked by the average joe. PPTP the lowest level can. The cost is irrelevant when it comes to privacy. If you pay a little more for the open VPN encryption then you get a roving IPs. There's little point using that unless you live in China. One thing a VPN does take a bit off the bandwidth but that's a price you pay...

" The fight against online piracy just gained a new weapon in the form of the Copyright Alert System (CAS) aka the "six strikes" policy. Starting today, participating ISPs like Verizon, Time Warner Cable, AT&T and Comcast will begin issuing warnings to customers suspected of using illegal peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing services that violate copyright laws. Initial notifications will be used to educate and direct customers to legal alternative content sources. If the first set of notifications go avoided, the ISP may take further action, which includes: throttling internet connection speeds and redirecting users to websites requiring acknowledgment of CAS alerts.

If a person wishes to contest their ISP's findings, they will have 14 calendar days to request an independent review by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) for a fee of $35. If the investigation finds that no copyright violations have taken place, the alerts will be removed from the customer's account and they will receive a refund for the filing fee. However, should the organization's research rule otherwise, the internet service provider may proceed with taking action against its account holder. To get a closer look at the CAS and its inner workings, "redirect" your browser to the source links below."

Gentlemen, start your VPNs!
