Using Pictures In Signatures

Post by nerodine » Wed Oct 19, 2005 8:51 am

Had a few people ask me how they put images in their signatures. I know bundles of you know how to do it, but there are people who don't. Here's Yubari's Easy 1-2-3 for adding pretty pictures:

Goto "Gallery".
If you don't have a gallery set up yet, create one.
Click "Upload Picture".
Click "Browse", select the picture from your machine you want to use as a sig.
(it doesn't seem to like .GIF images for some reason)
Add an amusing comment as required.
Click "Upload Picture" to send it to the gallery.
Click "My Gallery" to see the entry for the picture.
Select the relevant entry to open the picture up.
Right click on the image and select "Properties".
There should be an entry called "Address" (in IE) or "Location" (in Firefox).
Select the whole location address and copy it.

At this point you've uploaded the picture and now got its address ready to paste into your signature. So time to add it to the signature ...

Goto "Profile" at the top of the forum page. Note, must be "Profile" and NOT the "Your Account" option.
Go to the "Signature" section.
Check that underneath "Signature" it says "BBCode is ON".
If not, go to the "Preferences" section underneath and switch it on.
Also check in the "Preferences" section to ensure it says "Always attach my signature: Yes".
Now go back to the "Signature" box and type in:
Now paste in the address of the picture from the first stage.
Now type in:
[/img]
You should now have a line that reads something like:
[img]http://www.sunfall-rebels.com/modules/c ... yubari.JPG[/img]
Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of page.

Go make an amusing post demeaning someones masculininty (or femininininity) to check it works then cheer loudly that your pretty picture is now there for the world to enjoy. Okay, bit more than 1-2-3 steps but you get the idea ;)

I generally tend to stick with 400 wide by 50 high, and that the size I've done all the other sigs for people in too. This ensures that no matter what resolution people are browsing the forums in, your signature will be visible without being (overly) annoying ;)

I uploaded mine to photobucket which automatically gives you the tags to put it in your sig.

Can't really upload it to anywhere else as Warcraft Realms update the image with data as and when they recieve it. It should work but I can't get it to. I tried both bbcode and html :(

Your code looks fine, but looks like you've gone into your account through the "Your Account" option at the top of the forums and not the "Profile" option.

Aaah fixed now :) Yep I was going in through Your Account. Went in via Profile, didn't change anything just hit submit and et voila :)

Cheers :D
