Heh, with those categories, I'd take any decent game in any of them.Betelgeuse wrote:- High Fantasy yet with 'Standard setting'. Dragons, spells, dwarves, etc.
- Steampunk-y fantasy. Golems, guns and magic, etc. WoW, Xenogears, etc.
- Spacetrade/exploration/piracy. Like Freelancer and X:The Threat. But then MMO
- Scifi / Magic. SWG, Shadowrun, etc.
- Nonmagic empirebuilding. perhaps Civ? Age of empires?
- Enterprise-driven. Like RR tycoon or Transport Tycoon
Had enough of the fantasy setting for now, RPGs with the usual cruft of dragons, magic etc is just too "easy" - it's all been done before.
Steampunk - this would rock, but I'd have it less WoW-like, I put WoW firmly in the Fantasy genre. So high-tech, but all kind of steam-driven. Think like an extreme Millennium Falcon.
Spacetrade/exploration/piracy - Would be cool, as long as it's not as dull as EvE. Pirates 4tw tbh, eagerly awaiting this.
Scifi / Magic - Tabula Rasa could be cool, if they iron out some of the issues.
Nonmagic empirebuilding - as an MMO this could be Teh Pits, unless they cross SWG city-building, with EvE's scale, and allow something really viable for the non-combatants.
Wow, big post

Absolutely spot on Cyl, this should be at the core of any serious mmo, in my opinion.Cylindric wrote: To summarise:

For me the new "class" style of play has changed things far too much for me...Kanubis wrote:I logged in a bout a month ago and there was 1 person in Sunfall. One of the best things about SWG was the multitude of professions that you could mix and match to find your own balance or preference.
The linear class style system works for many mmo's (not least WOW) but for SWG to lose something so fundamental to the game just changed it too much for me.
